BluesPoetry

Negril
Negril on the ocean where sweet breezes flow
Carrying the scents of the trade winds
and the voices of Marley and Cliff echo as
Ganga stokes the fires of revolution
The rebirth of Halle Salassie and Ras Tafari
On the beach where I swam with sea turtles
Where I ate Akei and Rice
Slept with the peace of the ages
Drank mushroom tea and smoked the herb
Lived in Gladys's huts with no screens in the windows
Showered in the rusty tin sided dirt floored under the sun
Laughed til my sides hurt so much I wanted to die
with Birdie and the boys past the point of no return
$5 dollars a day was the fare for the 'breath of the lamb'
Gladys was big and tough like leather from the sun and poverty
Amos was always smokin' that pipe of his and making boats
from the trees in the mountain for fishin' in the bay
The land of the 'Blue Mountains' and 'Blue Moon'
Short trips to paradise from Miami
Jamica farwell as Belefonte cries across the Blue Caribe
