BluesPoetry
The old blue coat slightly frayed with a button missing
It had been a familiar sight when he was here
She remembered him bundling her up in it those winter days
Perhaps carrying wood to build a fire or taking her to the beach
His scent was very present even when it was left hanging in the hall closet
He had been a Navy man and maybe that was why he bought it those years ago
As I wear it now, I know had been a big man for the size is big for me in my 64 frame
I know nothing about his life, where he had been or what he did for a living
But I do know that it keeps me warm in the rainy NW and I love it for its aged weathered look
This old blue coat was given with love and accepted with gratitude and a smile
Old coats passed along from person to person carry history in it pockets
Maybe my kids will pass along some old jacket of mine , aged with my wisdom in its pockets
